This recipe is meaty in texture, but completely plant-based!

Not only that, but with its 20 minute cook time, this simple and easy-to-make recipe is great for busy weekdays. That said, it’s an excellent option for your next family gathering too. We put this BBQ jackfruit to the test and received so much praise from vegans and meat eaters!
The powerful herbal substitute
Jackfruit is a large and bumpy tropical fruit native to southern India and Malaysia. Jackfruit contains many beneficial compounds, including high amounts of vitamin C and vitamin B, as well as folic acid, potassium, and magnesium. These compounds can support immune system, digestive, and blood health. Because of its fibrous texture, this unique fruit is the perfect pulled pork substitute. In addition, it has a very mild taste, so adding extra spices, herbs or sauces can turn this plant-based meat alternative into a deliciously sneaky dish! It’s perfect for vegans, vegetarians, or even anyone who just wants to eat more plants.
Our clean BBQ sauce
The BBQ sauce for this recipe is made with super clean and healthy ingredients, including lycopene-rich tomato puree, metabolism-boosting apple cider vinegar, and anti-inflammatory pineapple juice. It also uses molasses for a deep sweet taste as well as its beneficial minerals! Together, our Clean BBQ Sauce ingredients make a powerful, healthy sauce that is both nutritious and tasty!
Quick Cook or Slow Cook (er) this vegan dish
The recipe we wrote will guide you to a delicious dish quickly and easily. It is prepared on the stove and is ready in about 20 minutes! However, if you want to put this dish in the slow cooker so it’s ready when you get home or to stay warm during a party, be our guest! For this method, combine the ingredients for the BBQ sauce and add them to the slow cooker with the onion, garlic and jackfruit. Cook for 3 to 4 hours on high or 5 to 6 hours on low. Just make sure you sauté the onions and garlic first to soften them and really improve their taste.
