How to make apple pie roll ups
This recipe is going to come together in earnest so quickly, 10-15 minutes of preparation is all it takes to get it ready. Then only 15 minutes to bake and in 30 minutes you will have a warm, delicious apple pie dessert.
Cut off the crust from slices of bread.

Roll out the bread with a rolling pin

Fill each piece of flattened bread with apple pie filling.
Pro tip: If the apple pie filling is too big, you can roughly chop it up to make it easier to roll it into your bread. And you will likely have some more filling from this recipe! I like to use mine as a spread on toast or English muffins for breakfast.

Roll up each piece of bread and set aside.
Pro tip: Note that cinnamon strudel bread breaks more easily. So don’t roll it too tight. It’s more of a gentle crease.

Combine sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Pour butter and vanilla into a separate bowl. Dip each rolled bread in butter and place it on a sheet pan.

Sprinkle the top with the sugar mixture.
Pro tip: I don’t recommend that you roll every rollup in the sugar mixture. I found that they burn more easily on the ground when fully rolled. It’s best to just sprinkle it over it.

Bake for 15-20 minutes.

Variations / options / add-ins
- FILLING: Feel free to change the flavors of the filling you use in these! You can use anything from cherry or blackberry to peach or pumpkin pie filling.
- CINNAMON STRUDELBROT: You can easily use regular sandwich bread for this recipe, but the cinnamon strudel adds a nice little cinnamon punch! However, if you are using regular bread, you can add a little more filling. You can also substitute a gluten-free or egg-free bread if you have certain dietary restrictions.
- SALTED BUTTER: I prefer salted butter over unsalted butter for this recipe so that all of the sugar is cut through, but you can use unsalted butter if you’d like.
- ICING DRIZZLE: We love drizzling our apple pie roll ups with a little homemade frosting for extra sweetness. It’s so tasty!
frequently asked Questions
You can definitely use your own pie fillings for your apple pie rollups. Whether it’s homemade apple pie filling or some other type of pie filling like cherry or blackberry, you can use both homemade and store-bought pie filling in this recipe.
The filling of these roll ups can get on the pan, especially if you put in too much. So if you don’t have parchment paper, aluminum foil, or silicone baking mat (best option), this is a great option for keeping the sheet pan clean. Cooking spray works well too, you may need more tidying up.
These can be stored in an airtight container for a few days at room temperature. Or you can put them in an airtight container in the refrigerator for 4-5 days.
