Our Air Fryer French Toast Sticks Recipe Makes The perfect French toast every time! Soft on the inside, a bit crispy on the outside! Doused with powdered sugar and perfect for dipping in syrup!

Easy Air Fryer French Toast
My kids love breakfast! Pancakes, waffles, eggs, bacon, but their favorite is French toast!
French toast isn’t my favorite breakfast because it requires babysitting by the grill … until now!
Air Fryer French Toast completely changed the game for me! I swear they are the best french toast sticks I’ve ever made! They are super easy and ready in no time.
We love to gather a large amount and freeze it for a quick and easy breakfast! (See freezing and reheating instructions below!)
You can use this recipe to make either full slices of French toast or, as we prefer, French toast sticks!

Why we love this recipe
- The fail-safe recipe is perfect every time
- Quick and easy to do.
- Make-ahead frozen breakfasts – just pull them out when you’re ready to eat them!
- Child-friendly and recognized.
- Add your favorite fruit or toppings

- Thick sliced bread: Use your favorite type of bread for French toast. I used a thickly sliced bread or brioche-style challa when making these. If you don’t have thick sliced bread available, regular sliced bread will work too. If you are making French toast sticks out of this, I recommend cutting each piece into three sections instead of four for added stability when using a thinner sliced bread. (see additional tips on the bread below)
- Eggs
- Whipped cream: You can use 2% or whole milk or half and half.
- Light brown sugar
- Lemon juice: You can use juice that is fresh or made from concentrate.
- Vanilla extract
- cinnamon
- nutmeg
- powdered sugar
- Air fryer
- Bowls for dipping and mixing
- Measuring device
How to make Air Fryer French Toast Stick
You won’t believe how easy this recipe is and how perfect it comes out every time!
Prepare your air fryer basket by spraying it with olive oil spray (we like to use our Misto) or lining it with parchment paper.
- Cut each slice of bread into 3 to 4 even sections (if you’re not making sticks, just leave them as individual slices).
- Whisk eggs. Then add the cream, the light brown sugar, the lemon juice, the vanilla extract, the cinnamon and the nutmeg.
- Dip each piece of bread in the batter and place it in the frying basket. TIP: Don’t stack them up. You may need to run more than one batch to avoid overfilling the fryer.
- Cook at 380 degrees Fahrenheit for 5 minutes, then flip and cook on the opposite side for another 2 minutes.

Recipe tips
- You may want to put parchment paper in the air fryer basket for easier cleaning.
- If your air fryer has cooled down or not preheated, you may need to cook the first batch of French toast sticks for another 1-2 minutes.
- Pro tip: French toast usually goes best with slightly stale bread. This allows the egg-milk mixture to soak into the bread without falling apart so easily.
If you don’t have stale bread on hand, you can place your bread slices in your air fryer at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for a minute in a single layer. This helps to harden the bread slightly and makes the job easier. It’s not strictly necessary, but it can make your life a little easier.

How to use an air fryer
Air fryers are a relatively new invention that allows you to make wonderfully crispy creations without the extra fat and fat and burns of cooking in oil. All air fryers are slightly different, but they must be preheated before use.
Typically, halfway through cooking, you’ll need to stop the air fryer and shake the basket so that everything inside cooks evenly. Ultimately, you need to follow the instructions that came with your air fryer. Some other things you can do in an air fryer include french fries, fried pickles, popcorn chicken, or a host of other recipes.
Which air fryer do I use?
I literally use my air fryer every day. I love it! We now actually have two different air fryers. We have a small one for the little jobs and the Mac daddy of air fryers, our bigger one. The larger version is probably the one we use more often as we can cook more at once there!
Store and warm up
You can simply freeze your French toast sticks in an airtight container or bag and reheat them later. Let them cool completely and try to get as much air out of the bags as you can. You can freeze French toast sticks for up to 3 months.
When you’re ready to eat them, just take them out of the bag and place them in the air fryer at 350 degrees for about 3 minutes or until they are heated and crispy.
You can also leave them in the refrigerator for a few days and reheat them in the air fryer.
