I know, I know you love sugar I also love sugar. But we’ll come back to that later. First, let’s talk about a sugar detox plan. Why should you do a sugar detox? Because not only is it good for the health of your body but also the health of your mind! We also made it super easy. This sugar detox plan is only 14 days long! That’s only two weeks of your life to get the better of your life, and we even provided you with a grocery shopping guide!
How can you say no
Okay, okay, so I promised we’d get back to our love of sugar. Well, I love the GOOD type of sugar – the natural sugar found in fruits. Why do I choose this sugar over the processed sugar found in your beloved Girl Scout cookies and yummy cakes? Put simply, I choose natural sugar because it doesn’t drain my energy or add to weight gain like processed sugar does.
There are so many health benefits to saying goodbye to processed sugar and welcoming natural sugars. I can tell you that over and over again. I can tell you how it has helped me time and again to cut processed sugars out of my life and detoxify them.
If I keep telling you these things over and over again, you may realize how good a sugar detox is, but why not just find out for yourself? You will be surprised that you don’t need any added sugar to eat it delicious!
As I said above, sugar detox has tons of benefits. Some of these benefits include:
- Clearer skin
- Improved mood
- Better sleep
- Weight loss
- More energy
- Boost metabolism
- Improve digestion
The list really can go on and on if you ask me (which is just one more reason to try a 14 day sugar detox)! While I find everything on this list to be important, I actually saved what I consider to be the most important and useful for me to tell you right now: lack of food cravings.
Yup. In my personal experience, detoxing with sugar over a period of two weeks helped me not only to feel good and look better than before the detox. It also helped me stop craving for sugary foods like the popular Girl Scout Cookies and Tasty Kakes. I rarely crave ice cream anymore (and that’s a big deal for me).
And thanks to sugar detox, I know that when I crave ice cream, that craving can be satisfied with healthier, less sugary options like “nice cream” with bananas.

Why is sugar addicting?
I’ll be completely honest with you when I say the sugar detox is worth it. But I want to be completely honest with you. If I’m being honest, I can’t say it will be easy – at least not at first.
Cutting something out of your diet that you consume regularly isn’t easy, but sugar … Sugar is especially difficult. It is addictive. I think we can all agree on that.
What you may not know is that it’s not necessarily addicting because of its taste, but rather because of the boost it gives you. Unfortunately, this surge leads to a lack of satiety for you and your body. It’s also addicting because it affects the brain in much the same way that highly addictive drugs like cocaine and heroine affect the brain.
If you ask me, that’s in and of itself a good reason to go on a 14-day sugar detox.
What is the plan?
Now that you probably realize how great an idea is to go through this 14 day sugar detox plan, let’s dive into the plan itself.
The first few days will be the most difficult. I know that from experience. But I also know from experience that you are golden once the first four days are behind you! You may be wondering what those first four days mean … well, they can contain anything but added sweeteners! Yes, and that includes the artificial sweetener packets that you add to your coffee in the morning.
Nutrition expert Brooke Alpert suggests that in addition to cutting out sugar during the first few days of the sugar detox plan, you should also cut out dairy products, fruits, starchy vegetables, and alcohol. I know I know it sounds difficult To be honest, it’s not easy … but then again, amazing things don’t usually come easily. They come with hard work, determination and commitment.
Plus, just remember that after the fourth day, it gets easier. After day four, Brooke Alpert recommends adding an apple, some starchy vegetables, and even a dairy product back into your daily meals. It sounds so simple and irrelevant, but as someone who loves fruits and cheese, day five is both amazing and rewarding!
According to Alpert, the second week of detox can be accompanied by berries and even an extra dairy product. You Better Believe I Use These Additives To Enjoy Our Cottage Cheese Breakfast Bowl! While I think eating this delicious bowl for breakfast is absolutely amazing, in fact, it’s not even as amazing how you will feel once you get into that second week of detox! When I got to that point, my energy levels went up dramatically and I honestly just felt better all round.
Follow these rules to eliminate added sugars and cut down on fruits, dairy products, and starchy vegetables for the entire second week. So you can eat an apple, a serving of berries, two dairy products and some starchy vegetables every day. It’s also important to include some great sources of protein in your meals so that you can stay full for the rest of the detox.
Once you’ve completed all 14 days of the sugar detox plan and feeling fantastic, you can start adding more starchy vegetables, fruits, and healthy dairy products back to your diet. However, if you ask me, it’s best to stay away from those added sugars – especially the artificial sweetener packages that you pour into your coffee in the morning!
What are some tips?
Since sugar addiction will be difficult to fight, it is important to keep a few tips in mind.
Tip 1: When you feel like your sugar cravings are getting the most out of you, grab some fruit.
The sugar in fruits, like I said, is natural and great for curbing your cravings. Believe me, I have a big sweet tooth. With that said, I’m definitely a dessert girl. Instead of damaging my body with processed sugar every night, I have fruit for dessert. My body and mind always thank me for it!
Tip 2: Exercise.
If you experience withdrawal symptoms (yes, they do with sugar), try moving your body. Not only is this a great way to take your mind off things, but it’s also a great way to get your body to think about other things. You’ll feel better afterward, trust me.
Tip 3: Drink more water.
I know, I know you hear this fifteen times a day. But you hear it for good reasons! Water is so useful and necessary for your body to function properly.
It is also necessary to curb this desire. When you consume water, your mind and body are less likely to think that you are hungry, and are also less likely to think about eating sugar specifically.
Tip 4: Get rid of processed sugar foods in your home.
Throw everything out. You don’t need it and nobody in your house. If your child or spouse absolutely feels that need Ask these Oreos to hide them from you.
If you don’t have access to sugary foods, you can’t eat them when you want to.
Tip 5: EAT.
Just because you’re cutting out sugar doesn’t mean you have to cut out food. Fuel your body with nutritious whole food products that will keep you full and satisfied.
You will find that foods lacking processed, unnatural sugars taste no better than the good ones: the real whole foods that are full of the nutrients your body needs. You will also find that if you are fully occupied with healthy foods, you are less likely to want sugary foods.
